Ambient Wonder this Sunday

The theme is the Supernatural. Should be fun, especially if like last time the ratio of people who'd call themselves Christians to those who wouldn't was 1:2!

More information here.

Aargh! Been meaning to get along to one of these for ages, and I can't make it again - sorry.

Cool

Do you think its achieving what you originally setout to achieve - not a loaded question, just curious?

That's a good question. I looked back on my blog to see how we intended it so as not to just trade on my patchy memory!

I think yes and no to your question.

When we held our first event to test the style I said "This could well be something that stands independently but equally we assume accessible for people who've been through Developing Consciousness as an expression of church for them."

In that sense it is certainly attracting the people we thought might engage with it and inhabit a space of both mission and worship.

I think it has also enriched the wider life of St Augustine's giving people space to explore, express themselves and challenge the usual way of doing church. Feedback has certainly been about the extent we've been involving and sought to change the traditional power dynamics.

I think where I'd say no, or more not as much as we would like eventually, is around sustainability. Over the last few months we've seen big changes in people up for contributing and regularly participating. When we first started we found people were dipping in on a one off just "to see what this kind of thing is like", which meant we had a transient population. That undermined the community aspect as well as practical things like making the events happen and know who we were engaging with.
